A Sketch--The Suitors
A man had a beautiful daughter in whom two suitors--a religious leader and a young farmer--were interested. Each asked for her hand in marriage. The father favored the religious leader who assured him of a place in heaven. The daughter preferred the young farmer, who boasted of being a good farmer although he had never farmed in her village. When finally put to the test, he farmed so quickly and so well that the father was convinced that the assurance of a farm on earth was worth more than the promise of heaven.
