About the Artist
Barbara Strzeleokn studied piano with Maria Wilkomirska in Warsaw and harpsichord with Emma Altberg in Lodz, obtaining degrees in 1957 and 1960. In 1974 she studied thorough bass with Professor Antoine Geoffrey-Deachaume in France. Since 1960, Miss Strzelecka has been active in Europe both as a performer and musicologist. She has performed regularly both as soloist and as a member of a chamber orchestra for the Polish Radio and Television and at concerts organized by the Polish National Philharmonic and the Warsaw Musical Society. She also appears as soloist with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and has concertized throughout France, in the cities of Stras?bourg, Mulhause, Tours, Saumur, and Paris.
Specializing in music of the 16th and 17th centuries, Miss Strzelecka has participated in several musicological congresses and festivals of ancient music in Florence and Prato, Italy, performing music of early Polish, Italian, and English composers. Fifteen of her articles on the harpsichord and harpsichord music have appeared in the biweekly publication Ruch Uuzyctny.
Last summer Miss Strzelecka gave concerts in Florence and Paris, where she added the music of early Spanish composers to her programs. This year she has also made two records of Polish and French harpsichord music and one disc of the English virginal composers and the music of Henry Purcell.
Tonight's recital, a centennial year "bonus" for Chamber Arts Series subscribers, was under?written bv Mr. and Mrs. Peter N. Hevdon.
