102nd Season -Third Concert Summer Fare Series
Artist's note: Since his Carnegie Hall debut in 1948, Byron Jan is has performed in recital and with every major orchestra throughout the world, garnering international acclaim as one of today's leading pianists. His fascination of more than a decade with the music of Chopin has led him to the discovery of rare manuscripts and taken him to the chateau of George Sand in Nohant, today a French museum, where he played on Chopin's own piano. He has recently completed a film essay, co-produced by French television and a French film company, entitled "A Portrait of Chopin by Byron Janis," which met with great success in Paris and is being shown in many countries throughout the world. Tonight's recital, the artist's sixth Ann Arbor appearance, marks the beginning of a three-day residency during which Mr. Janis will conduct master classes at the V-M School of Music.
