The New World Ballet of Caracas, formerly known as the International Ballet of Caracas, is one of today's most fascinating young dance companies. Its new name and current artistic direction went into effect in 1981, resulting in an enlarged and renewed repertoire. Major international choreographers who have given their support are Alvin Ailcy, John Butler, Margo Sappington, and the late George Balanchine. Choreographers now working with the company on new repertoire arc Choo San Goh, Hans van Manncn, and Carlos Orta, the Ballet's resident choreographer. The company's dancers, carefully selected from around the world, are hand-picked for talent, versatility, and devotion to their art.
Zhandra Rodriguez, born in Caracas, is former Prima Ballerina of the National Ballet of Venezuela and a former principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater of New York. She has been a guest artist of the National Ballet of Cuba, and the Berlin, Vienna, and Hamburg Ballets. Miss Rodriguez is the founder and co-director of the Caracas New World Ballet, and is the Cultural Ambassador of Venezuela by appointment of the Presidency of the Republic.
Dale Talley, born in North Carolina, has danced with the Harkncss Ballet and Les Grands Ballet Canadiens. He has been with the Caracas Ballet for five years and now shares the artistic direction as well as being one of the principal dancers.
