About the WLBPD@AADL Large Print Books-by-Mail Service
Large Print Books-by-Mail: AADL circulates thousands of titles in Large Print in all areas of fiction and non-fiction. All WLBPD patrons are also eligible to receive Large Print Books-by-Mail sent to them from the AADL collection. To receive this service, an AADL library account is required. Check our catalog to search for specific titles or view all of our Large Print titles. You can also browse the Large Print titles specifically for children and teens.
You must have an Ann Arbor District Library (AADL) card account.
Only Large Print books qualify to be mailed as “Free Matter for the Blind.”
Books are ordered from the general (AADL) Large Print book collection and are checked out to your AADL library card account, which is a separate system from the one digital books are ordered from.
The system is not set up to automatically select titles for you. You can search for books and place holds yourself at My Account; email wlbpd@aadl.org, or call (734) 327-4224. Your hold will be mailed to you automatically when it is your turn.
Large Print books will be sent free through the mail just as other WLBPD@AADL materials, except they will arrive in a zippered mailbag. These zippered bags will have a mailing label on one side. Just like with the digital books, you simply flip the address label over and slip it back into its sleeve to return your Large Print book(s).
If you have an online account at aadl.org, you can track your checkout history. If not, we recommend you keep your own history of which Large Print books you’ve read. To preserve patron privacy, AADL does not keep a record of patron check-out histories.
There is no limit on the number of books you may check out. However, if you do not return materials, your participation in this service may be suspended.
Books may be checked out for 4 weeks including mailing time. Beyond 4 weeks, if they are not returned or renewed, they are considered overdue.
Books may be renewed if no one else is waiting for them. If people are waiting for them, they need to be returned.
Fees will be assessed for lost or damaged books. Books that are 45 days overdue are assumed lost, and will be billed for the cost of the item(s).
Patron accounts will be sent to Unique Management for collection when the balance reaches $40.00 in fines, fee, and/or replacement charges.
