This book written by Rachel Harley, an Eastern Michigan Associate Professor and Betty MacDowell is the first publication of its kind that recognizes many of the Women who have played a part in Michigan's Society. These women were the ones who had the courage to break in where Women weren't previously allowed. “They took the lead, and it is not easy to do that even for a man”, said Betty MaCDowell, a staff member of the Michigan State University Museum.
Fifteen Ypsilanti women are listed in the book. The following are included:

Jan Franklin Ben Dor
Pasty Chandler

Elizabeth Lambie Fletcher
Mattie Dorsey

Ethel Scott Howard
Thelma Goodman

Naomi Long Madgett
Carolyn King

Helen Walker McAndrew
Doris Milliman

Wealthy Ann Sherman
Susan Sayre

Edith May Swanson
Maxine Boord Virtue

Mary Elenore Delany McCoy
