In January 1937, as Sophia FitzOsborne continues to record in her journal, the members of Montmaray's royal family are living in luxurious exile in England but, even as they participate in the social whirl of London parties and balls, they remain determined to free their island home from the occupying Germans despite growing rumors of a coming war that might doom their country forever.

Like Downton Abbey? submitted by valerieclaires on August 1, 2014, 4:05pm Now that the FitzOsbournes are exiled in England, this part of the series is more like Downtown Abbey or other BBC period dramas, with the girls making their presentations in Court and moving around in the circles of London's high society. Veronica, Simon, Sophie, and Toby work to maintain Montmaray from afar, especially while the Nazis take it over and war looms over all of Europe. The book has a good mix of both societal balls and Aunt Charlotte's ever-present concern over when, and whom, each of the FitzOsbourne children will marry as well as earnest work to defend their country and work toward causes they believe in.

Make sure to read the first book, A Brief History of Montmaray, first. You won't be completely lost without it, but will definitely miss a lot of the story.
