Favorite submitted by ashflowtuff on August 26, 2016, 8:14pm I love this book! It's so sweet. One of my all-time favorites.

Great story. submitted by rweyler on July 19, 2021, 3:41pm Amusing, but perhaps philosophical too. What's like to be a rock? Evidently, not much. Be glad you're alive!

Classic submitted by jibkidder on June 13, 2022, 12:14pm Stieg is one of the few children's authors who lets the darkness in and takes his words seriously. Truly one of the greats. If this isn't my favorite Stieg, which it probably is, it is at least the one I think about the most. The magical transformation is his trope, and this is sort of the best instantiation of that.

Heavy, but Good submitted by GSchne on July 23, 2022, 10:26pm As another reviewer mentioned, this one let's the darkness in. As a kid I just loved the magical story. As an adult my heart just breaks for Sylvester's parents and it changed my relationship with the book. I still love it, but it's definitely not light-hearted.

Gratitude submitted by karander on July 12, 2023, 5:23pm This book reminds you to be grateful!
