Budding author submitted by fka83111 on July 29, 2011, 5:54pm Loved this book and others by Adiche. She's an emerging African writer.

Powerful Tale submitted by calliv22 on August 26, 2017, 11:25am Engaging from start to finish. Compelling characters and a wonderfully written story

A compelling historical fiction tale submitted by kittenkat101 on July 5, 2018, 2:44pm Half of a Yellow Sun follows the story of the Nigerian coup from various viewpoints. It's compelling and wonderfully written, I highly recommend!

Informative and well rendered submitted by Jinxyluis on July 23, 2018, 11:27am A moment in history crystallized through the eyes of only a few characters. Heartbreaking and moving.

Powerful and distressing submitted by sushai on June 23, 2020, 10:43am That feeling you get when you learn the details of another atrocity that your country was complicit in. How lines are drawn and people are divided and made to hate and kill each other for their religion/color/ethnicity/region of birth. How women are seen as property or simply bodies to be used by men. How men are conscripted as soldiers. How blind patriotism is encouraged used by leaders. A hard book to read, but an important one. I felt attached to the characters even with all their many flaws.

Made me want to learn more. submitted by RebeccaWittekindt on June 26, 2021, 5:44pm An amazing book, with beautifully created characters. I was tense so often about what would happen to them. Not just an incredible story, but one about events I knew very, very little about. As I read I looked up more info on Biafra, and after finishing I want to learn even more. A horrific time, painted in heartbreaking detail.

"They Were Silent When We Died" submitted by asangtani on August 4, 2023, 2:55pm A compelling historical fiction about the Biafran war in Nigeria, mixed with White indifference. So beautifully written and so incredibly sad.
