This book is awesome! submitted by michaelandpuppy on July 22, 2018, 8:07pm Great children's book with great pictures and a great story.
Good for Readers of All Ages submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2021, 12:10pm This book marries historical fact with narrative storytelling to give readers an intimate glimpse at the first days of the transcontinental railroad. With the front endpaper providing historical background and the back endpaper showing the technical specifications of a locomotive, the heart of the book follows a family on their journey from Omaha to Sacramento. Along the way, readers learn about the way that the railroad was built, the accommodations on board and at various stations, and the geography of the American West. Floca uses a lot of evocative sound words, presented in bold scripts, that give the reader a sense of being present along the rails. This is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of rail travel and is a great choice for its attention to detail and effective evocation of an era long past.
