COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Not Easy to Write About submitted by DBJC on August 16, 2017, 12:51pm Ever since I read Salvage the Bones, I've wanted to devour everything that Jesmyn Ward has written. Men We Reaped is a memoir comprised of small slivers of the lives of men who she knew in her Mississippi community, and it is a gateway to what it's like to be poor and black in the south. This is not a memoir that was easily written, and it's seen through her lyrical prose--her words of full of hurt and hunger, hunger for answers about why these men were not given the lives that they deserved. What their lives were, are worth, is more than the value that most people place on black men (and women) in the south. Ward hasn't done an easy thing by writing this memoir but I'm glad that she did.
