Classic submitted by Ilyjtwya on June 28, 2011, 11:10am I read this book as a child and decided to re-read before allowing my 8 year old to read it. I recommend it for the lessons it has about friendship and acceptance. However, I also recommend reading it with, or right before your child. There are foreign concepts, such as Vietnam and "peaceniks", which may need some explaining. More importantly, though, are the mature areas of the story that you may want to further discuss. In addition to death, the boy has romantic feelings about his teacher and a classmate is being physically abused by her father. When classmates and teachers learn about it, the actions aren't seen as very unusual and there is more concern about the girl feeling embarrassed about telling anyone. The book is from a different time, so many other things are different (like segregating girls and boys) so that should be kept in mind.
Bridge to Terabithia submitted by leehannah on June 17, 2012, 7:01pm This book was very sad and I almost cried by the end. I would highly recommend this book to anybody though. I would say that it is kind of predictable, but I still really enjoyed it!
Great submitted by xjasx on June 17, 2012, 11:06pm I didnt like the ending. It was so sad. I read this as a kid and I loved it, well besides the ending anyway xD I made sure to watch the movie and recommend it to my cousins after
A sad sad ending submitted by gxl on July 17, 2012, 7:27pm The ending was so sad, but I still loved this book, my teacher gave it to me as a gift, and I was hooked when I started reading it, it really is a great book!!! :(

Wonderful submitted by sarai koster-mockeridge on June 18, 2016, 2:00pm I loved this book as a child and had my 11 year old read it a few months age. She hated the book, but I will say, it was the first book in which she cried about the characters and really cared about what happened to them. I think it was an excellent book for her to read, even though she didn't like the book.
Favorite Childhood Book submitted by carriebank on June 15, 2018, 11:36pm Ahh, Bridget to Terabithia. I remember reading this for the first time when I was in middle school. I fell in love with this book and the characters. Now that I have a middle schooler, we read it together and renewed the magic. The strong bonds of friendship are wonderfully explained. The sadness that it puts into your heart makes you think and appreciate your own friendships.
Bridge to Terabithia submitted by Varshini on July 20, 2019, 7:02pm This book has a really tragic ending, but it’s a great story anyways. 5/5 stars
Amazing submitted by sydcha on August 4, 2019, 8:41pm This book is a heartbreakingly honest depiction of a kids transition from child to adult. The innocence and beauty of this book is amazing. You should definitely read it!

My teacher is reading this book to us and so far it's good but the book explanation provided for this book is kinda spoiling the ending. I hate that Leslie dies.
Very good submitted by Abbie D. on July 10, 2022, 4:06pm Great book, beware the sad ending!
Worth a Read! submitted by KThrone on June 16, 2023, 11:50am Read it as a child and then was surprised to find it in my curriculum for my 5th Grade students. Reading it out loud to my students takes on a whole new challenge than reading it to myself. I recommend reading it with your younger reader as some things will need to be explained. And they will need a shoulder at the end. Jess' reaction to the events that unfolded is what gets me every single time. Breaks my heart each time!
