NOT better than a sharp stick to the eye submitted by surferbill on November 25, 2013, 4:57pm As much as I enjoyed the world of Divergent, this final chapter, Allegiant, makes me wish I never heard of Veronica Roth. I've never, in four decades of reading voraciously, been so disappointed in an author, so disgusted by the slapdash job done by an editing team, so embarrassed for recommending a series, until this terrible book. The Sweet Valley High books that were popular when I was a kid had more character development and consistent tone that Allegiant, and every one of them was written by a different person. I weep for the trees that died to make this POS.

Allegiant submitted by sharmas on June 14, 2014, 12:54pm Sad story! After reading the last bit, I wish I had never read the book.

ok submitted by ECReader on June 16, 2014, 9:39am i liked the book right up until the ending because it was so sad and it made me cry, which i dont like to do.

Ok submitted by Noahwebb on June 23, 2014, 6:16pm Its ok

hard to rate submitted by camelsamba on June 24, 2014, 12:30pm Hard to know how to rate this. At the beginning (maybe 200 pages worth - which says something right there) I was annoyed by the alternating points of view. I felt like it was preachy and pedantic. And then we have the shift of focus to the genetically 'pure' vs 'damaged' folks. Somehow this ties into factions and Divergents, but that thread is left dangling. A lot of threads are left dangling. Tris becomes annoying at points, but they, she's a young teen so I suppose her self-centeredness and expectation that everyone should agree with her is not unrealistic (or is that more characteristic of someone under age 10??). At some point in the middle, I started enjoying the writing/pacing/plot again, but then it fell apart for awhile (and I am not referring to that certain character's fate - I actually didn't hate that twist) until the last few chapters and the epilogue were okay. Overall, a mish-mash in more ways than one. I did feel compelled to finish, though!

Meh submitted by Sunny29 on June 24, 2014, 12:33pm Unfortunately, Roth wasn't able to catch up with herself completely after a jam packed second novel. A few questions from the second book were answered, but our love-to-hate heroine Tris continues on her reckless path, while more attention is given to Tobias' character. Roth alternates chapters from these two character's point of view, which doesn't do anything for the novel. I'm glad I finished the series, but I don't think I'll be reading any more of her novels in the near future. Given time to mature, I'd read a Roth novel again, but not from this series.

Alright submitted by aparna70 on June 26, 2014, 5:21pm good pass time.

Horrible ending submitted by Memoria1224 on July 8, 2014, 9:10pm I loved reading this series. The plot was great, but the ending was not.

Bad ending submitted by ehm on July 12, 2014, 3:55pm I don't really like books that alternate points of view, and this one disappointed. I think that Veronica Roth should have kept with the same style as she did in the other two "Divergent" books (only showing Tris's view), and I think that Tobias overreacted about being "damaged". However, I like the series, and although the book was a little confusing it was good. I also don't really like dystopian books where it turns out that the characters were just part of an "experiment" or something along those lines. Still, a good book!

Worst Ending submitted by eagles on August 3, 2014, 1:50pm Oh, I hated the ending so much. It was very sad, it made me really sad, and it was HORRIBLE. I liked Divergent, and Insurgent, but this book, had the WORST ENDING POSSIBLE. It is really not what you think D:

Ehhh.. fair to good, but not great. submitted by ValerieL on August 14, 2014, 12:13pm I definitely didn't like this one as much as the first two. First of all, the first two were told pretty much from Tris's point of view. This book bounced back and forth between Tris's point of view and Tobias/Four's point of view. That made it a little more difficult for me to keep track of what was happening. I had to keep flipping back and reminding myself who was speaking in various chapters.

I also wasn't real fond of the direction the story went in, but the writing was still well done in my opinion. I was still very compelled to keep reading. And the ending was far more like "real" life and not "and they lived happily ever after".

Definitely still worth the read, just not as good as the previous two.

Difficult Read submitted by Susan C on September 18, 2014, 8:58pm This was difficult to read due to changing perspective for each chapter. You have to pay attention to who is "I"? Back track then go forward. It's pretty easy to guess the ending. Needlessly sad.

Horrible ending submitted by banana on June 12, 2015, 3:06pm This books ending was horrible it was a good book, but I don't recommend it for people who hate sad endings

OK submitted by leenajong on July 11, 2015, 8:42pm Disappointed ending.

Allegiant submitted by SBNB on August 6, 2015, 10:41pm Not bad. Some parts feel forced, and it took a while to get used to reading from Four's perspective, but everything feels complete at the end.

Bad submitted by peterflorence on June 20, 2016, 5:05pm Horrible ending. Wish I hadn't read it.

Good submitted by FairyWings on July 1, 2016, 12:56pm I loved this book and it is another one of Veronica's masterpieces.

Allegiant submitted by lauradu_palmer on July 12, 2016, 9:22pm A slow end to the series.

Book on Cd is better submitted by lbootzin on July 24, 2016, 9:44pm I wasn't thrilled with the conclusion to the series. And I had trouble knowing whose chapter I was reading because they sounded so similar. The narration on the audiobook helped.

Different direction submitted by steveiew on June 28, 2018, 8:08pm This book took a different turn than I expected based up on the first book. It was still a good book where we discovered more about the society and government.

Not the best ending submitted by Bigal2212 on August 22, 2018, 1:44pm It marked the end of a great series

Decent submitted by lstorc on August 31, 2018, 12:58am It's a decent sequel considering that the entire premise to the series and is ridiculous.

:(( submitted by c_zhang on June 26, 2019, 7:15pm This book just doesn't feel right. It feels forced, the characters are out of character. The ending is ?????

Allegiant submitted by Varshini on July 20, 2019, 7:40pm This book RUINED the series. I actually really enjoyed Divergent and Insurgent, but this book was ehhhhhhh not the best....

Okay submitted by Tejasvi Ramanathan on July 24, 2019, 7:49pm Allegiant was not that great. I read all the bad reviews first, so I looked up the plot. It was horrible! In the end, I got Allegiant, but after two-hundred pages, I couldn't take it and just skipped to the end. I don't feel like I missed anything.

Not... terrible? submitted by sbeegees on August 6, 2019, 12:11pm Okay. I'll be the first to admit that the ending wasn't the best. However, the trilogy is still amazing and totally worth reading. Great dystopian.

Amazing submitted by eliadler on July 16, 2020, 10:43am I found this book to be better than the second one (but not as good as the first). The story is told from the point of view of both Tris and Tobias, and this gives you a deeper look into their relationship.

Pretty bad submitted by pepemama on June 18, 2021, 11:14am Much worse than the other books in the series, and the switching POVs gets really annoying.
