Classic! Looing forward to the film version submitted by Robb Morss on December 27, 2007, 1:18pm This is always a great bed time read for the kids at night. Great prose, wonderful illustrations, and a lesson to be shared with all children. Looking forward to the upcoming film version, hope I won't be disappointed.

A children's classic submitted by Daniel Saltzman on January 4, 2010, 2:35pm The perfect bed-time story, your child will want this story again, and again, and again.

imaginative! submitted by fairytale on August 13, 2011, 2:32pm One of the best children's books ever! Imaginative!

I'll Eat It Up, I Love It So! submitted by chuntoon on June 23, 2012, 11:19pm A incredible tale. Simply told... but wonderful in it's complexity. IT NEVER GETS OLD.

better submitted by lawrencekl57 on August 10, 2012, 8:54pm The book is much better than the movie.

Classic submitted by jarroyo on July 9, 2013, 2:52pm This is a classic children's book. It has neat pictures and a basic story. My children weren't super into this book.

Absolutely the best submitted by prlhw on August 13, 2013, 5:28pm This story and the images are so captivating. Sendak captures childhood so sweetly and honestly.

Not a big fan submitted by cbrewster on August 16, 2013, 7:35pm I know that most people love this book, but I took a class in college where we analyzed this book and after that I really didn't care for it anymore. Doesn't have the best messages.

Classic Book, but Not My Favorite submitted by amanda1655 on August 4, 2014, 7:44pm This is a classic book that adults often point to as one of their favorite books from their childhood. The illustrations get larger as the reader proceeds through the book, and the reader is meant to imagine that the rompus that ensues. Personally, however, I find the book a bit dull.

Such a great book submitted by downing on July 25, 2015, 2:18am I can read this over and over and still enjoy it

Childhood favorite submitted by whitneywk on August 30, 2015, 10:18pm Iconic illustrations tell the story of Max, a child whose imagination takes him to a land of wild creatures. You would never realize after reading this book that it only has 20 lines. The experience feels so much deeper than that.

Astonishing Illustrations submitted by Meginator on July 19, 2018, 4:53pm The astonishing illustrations in this book uniquely capture a spirit of imagination, and Sendak's visions have since (deservedly) become synonymous with a certain type of childhood wonder. The book still holds my fascination as an adult, and it's a pleasure to return to it alone and with new generations of readers.

A must read submitted by elepling on August 3, 2018, 11:36pm Great to spark children’s imagination

Children are captivated submitted by bjkoch on July 30, 2022, 10:10pm Even baby is excited to give this book a read. My children really relate to the experience of running wild before needing a bit of time to imagine and cool down.

An insta- favorite! submitted by skairis on August 8, 2022, 12:30am My daughter loves this book! The pages of just illustration allow us to add fun noises and movements to the "wild rumpus" being held by the wild things. Imagination and reading together in one great book!

Endless imagination submitted by Noah Oron on August 3, 2023, 9:47pm And amazing illustrations

Picture book classic submitted by MillinerR on August 15, 2024, 3:41pm This is my favorite picture book of all time. It's the one I would always want my mom to read to me at night. I was always captivated by Max's adventure into an imaginary world, and Sendak's illustrations are iconic. Even now, I still appreciate the story and message.

A sentimental book submitted by gkeller on August 19, 2024, 10:01am This book is a timeless children’s book that captures the essence of imagination and adventure. I remember reading it often as a child. The story follows a young boy named Max, who, after being sent to his room as punishment, embarks on a fantastical journey to an island inhabited by wild creatures. Max becomes their king, reveling in the freedom and chaos, but eventually realizes the importance of home and love. The illustrations are both whimsical and haunting, perfectly complementing the narrative’s blend of wonder and introspection. This book is a beautiful exploration of childhood emotions and the power of imagination.
