All About Dandilions submitted by Jan Wolter on July 11, 2013, 2:09pm Sometimes the things we notice least are those that are the most ubiquitous, and our blindness to them hides from us numerous insights about our world and ourselves. This book is short, highly readable, and touches on many deep issues without dwelling too long on any of them. If you are interested enough in the natural world to pick this book up, than it is likely that most of the themes it touches on will not be new to you, but this will be a pleasant chance to revisit them. The author sorts through the history, lore and science of the dandelion with insight and appropriate skepticism. The culinary virtues of the dandelion fail to impress her, she makes a good case for its medicinal virtues, and a stronger case yet against the poisons that people use to try to eradicate it. I think the book might be a nice tool to use in a school room. It's an easy read on a subject anyone can relate to, that connects nicely to many deep subjects. It won't necessarily induce a love for the dandelion, but it can teach you a lot about nature and our relationship to nature.

I liked how each chapter focused on a person or personal anecdote (a few of them historic, like Nicholas Culpepper or Henry David Thoreau) and branched out from there, exploring an aspect of dandelion use.
