In a near future world of heat, greed, and hunger, Devin earns a coveted spot in a home for abandoned children that promises unlimited food and toys and the hope of finding a new family, but Devin discovers the home's horrific true mission when he investigates its intimidating Administrator and the zombie-like sickness that afflicts some children.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A pretty good read submitted by FordAlpha on July 18, 2018, 8:49pm This middle-grade dystopian novel manages to be fairly original, and its plot is well structured in terms of timing and tension. Only the most central characters are really fleshed out, but the quirky band surrounding them is usually entertaining (though sometimes annoying). I figured out what was going on only a little before the protagonists did, where usually I figure it out long before, yet the pieces fit together well; that's a good sign.
