I could learn to love memoirs because of this book! submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 31, 2021, 9:58pm A solidly excellent memoir of a Black Hawaiian trans woman and her journey to living life publicly on her terms. My book club often reads memoirs, and I frequently wonder why we spend our time on them (I’m not interested in rubber-necking other people’s lives), but Mock’s journey is interesting and educational without any of the “I’m far more special than anyone else who exists” that made me dislike Sydney Poitier’s and without the absolute train-wreck gawking that seems so common now (_Glass Castle_, anyone?). _Redefining Realness_ could sell me on memoirs, maybe for the first time!
