Charles R. Knight (1874-1953) was a painter and sculptor from New York. He was a preeminent artist of prehistoric animals. Knight{u2019}s interest in drawing animals and nature began as a child and continued even after he became legally blind at the age of six. While growing up, he was enrolled in several art institutes. His early career included designing stained glass windows, illustrating children{u2019}s books, and freelancing for magazines. Knight preferred to sketch from real life, either observing nature or artifacts at museums. His career is distinguished by a long, fruitful partnership with the the American Museum of Natural History. Knight created illustrations to accompany some of the museum{u2019}s first public displays of prehistoric fossils.
