Fabulous Favorite submitted by flutegrl97 on June 28, 2012, 8:19pm I have adored this movie since I was very young. I can still watch it and find absolute pleasure in every moment of it. Julie Andrews is a phenomenal actress, and Dick Van Dyke (while his British accent in incorrigible) plays a wonderful supporting role. The singing, dancing, magic, beauty, and vibrant colors of this film make it a must-have in any child's film experience (though I highly suggested it to individuals of all ages).

The performances of the children as Jane and Michael Banks are really quite good, as is Mr. Banks. My favorite, though, is Dick van Dyke, doing a little bit of everything as the jack-of-all-trades (and Mary Poppins' love interest) Bert and as the elderly chairman of the board at Mr. Banks' bank, who dies laughing. My kids were reluctant to watch it -- it's definitely old-fashioned -- but they gradually got absorbed and enjoyed it enough to watch again and again.

It’s just too long for littles. My 3yo and 5yo can sit through 1h45m no problem…but this really stretches out too much for them.
