Pleasantly surprised submitted by annikajoyce on July 31, 2018, 9:06am I've always loved the Pirates of the Caribbean saga––and I'm obsessed with the Disneyland ride. But after the fourth production (On stranger tides), my enthusiasm for this tale waned, and not only because key figures (Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly) had left the plot-line. The fourth film left me disappointed. I felt that the series had been reduced somewhat to an all-about-Johnny-Depp, cliche-filled Hollywood money-maker. With great skepticism I checked out this fifth production and was pleasantly surprised. The plot picks up on loose threads and lingering narratives, providing closure. It references characters from the past while introducing new ones with clear identities, knit closely into the ongoing plot. My only complaint: the graphics on Captain Salazar and his crew are horrible! In their attempts to go over-the-top, the design team really flubbed.
