Surprisingly Down-to-Earth and Enjoyable

First I should say that I've never been totally drawn to stories of the 1920/1930s, and the cover title make it appear to be very Great Gatsby-esque. And, I never understand why writers don't use perfectly good quotation marks to denote dialogue.
That said, THE WRITING, oh, the writing! The words are so good and so well put together, I would have underlined every fifteenth sentence had it not been a library book. And while it takes a while to get going, following Katey through this world as an independent woman living and working in New York and navigating all sorts of different relationships is a delightful troop; I managed to sit down and read for five hours straight (which I haven't done in years). Our book club had heaps to talk about and, contrary to our usual spread of opinions, everyone gave it a thumbs up.
