COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Just okay submitted by Amber Kinder on June 15, 2014, 10:55am I feel like all the hype leading up to this movie left something to be desired. I read the books long before the movie came out so I'm sure that didn't help things. I feel like the casting could've been better and they strayed from the book frequently leaving out things that I thought should've been kept. It was entertaining though and probably would've been better if I hadn't read the books before. I was still a little disappointed.

Awesome submitted by devipal on July 13, 2014, 9:00am It was the best movie ever. A girl has to pick a faction for her to live in for the rest of her life. Bit she is divergent which means she thinks differently and the kill divergent people. So the movie is about how she hides that she is divergent and lives.

Just about what I expected.... submitted by Sunny29 on July 23, 2014, 4:08pm I enjoyed reading the book, as it was a fast paced easy YA read. The movie of course doesn't provide all of the character development, so you are left with superficial relationships and disappointing scenes. Stick with the Hunger Games series if this is your genre of choice.

Good Movie submitted by yslee on July 30, 2014, 2:30pm This movie is really good, but the book is probably better.
Some parts I think are important are left out though...

Awesome submitted by eagles on August 3, 2014, 1:45pm i really liked this movie, it was action packed! It was really good. Although it didn't include some parts, that were in the book. I cannot wait to see the other two movies! :D

Good adaptation submitted by beeniepie on August 27, 2014, 7:11pm This was a good adaptation of Veronica Roth's first book. All the actors portrayed their characters well, and there were few deviations from the source material. The way the movie brought the simulations to life were solid and did not seem to be a cheesy, over the top 3D opportunity. I hate when special effects eclipse a good film.

Fun, book was better submitted by CGrayson on June 23, 2015, 8:47pm In the inevitable condensation from book to movie a lot of nuance was lost. However the visual effect of how Chicago was turned into a dystopian future was terrific.

Slightly disappointed submitted by Motomori on June 24, 2015, 12:40pm I was slightly disappointed by this movie. I thought it was an amazing adaptation of the book, but I thought that they would get some of the minor details of the book right. Some of these being the height difference of Christina and Tris (Christina is supposed to be taller), the brewing romance between Christina and Will, and the importance of Uriah during the movie. Other than these flaws, it was pretty good.

good submitted by ECReader on July 9, 2015, 12:08pm I enjoyed this movie on it's own, though when compared to the book, it was a little lacking. I thought the casting was great, though Tris seems different in the book than in the movie. In general I think this movie is worth watching.

Divergent submitted by SBNB on August 2, 2015, 2:40pm It’s a good movie. If you don’t know the background (you haven’t read the book or you don’t have someone next to you who read the book providing commentary), it might be hard to follow. But having read and loved the book, I enjoyed it and found it to be a very good representation of the essence of the book.

Divergent Film submitted by lauradu_palmer on July 12, 2016, 9:24pm A good breakout movie for the series. For those who have read the books, a few key characters and scenes are omitted. But overall, an engaging movie.

Same as the book submitted by toschag on August 3, 2016, 11:05pm Like the book pretty generic and underwhelming.

An Interesting Film submitted by avrogers1 on June 20, 2017, 10:45am I really liked this movie. I enjoyed the story line and the action. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.

divergent submitted by yenkong on July 2, 2017, 11:46am Was okay, it could have been better.

Amazing submitted by ge5935 on June 27, 2018, 8:39am This movie actually matched most of the story. It was almost as good as the book.

ok submitted by irvin.linda on August 5, 2018, 7:50pm the movie failed to include some key aspects of the book. some characters did not match what they were described as in the books. my advice would be if you really want to watch it don't read the books first.

Disappointing submitted by c_zhang on June 29, 2019, 1:36am It was kind of expected, but this movie really didn't measure up to the book.

Divergent submitted by Varshini on July 20, 2019, 7:23pm The movie definitely wasn’t as great as the book, but it was still a good movie nonetheless. 4/5 stars

Pretty Good submitted by Clown81 on July 27, 2019, 7:39pm I like this movie.

d submitted by kscapellie on July 11, 2020, 3:59pm the movie was good but the book was better

Don't Compare to the Book submitted by carcat15 on June 24, 2022, 11:16am Like many other reviewers, I thought the book was better. However, when you watch it without comparing it to the book, it is a great movie on its own. It had great action and suspense.

good ! submitted by umich.reader on July 9, 2022, 4:24pm SUCH a good movie
