Read by Joyce Bean.
Barbara Ehrenreich describes how people over prepare and worry way too much about what is inevitable. One by one, she topples the shibboleths that guide people's attempts to live a long, healthy life, from the importance of preventive medical screenings to the concepts of wellness and mindfulness, from dietary fads to fitness culture.

B submitted by Judeyblu on July 24, 2018, 7:56am An interesting book, one that I would have rated higher if the topics flowed more smoothly.
The idea that will stay with me the longest is Depression is unrelenting introspection... never thought of it that way.
Two of the most interesting sections deal with macrophages (and their ability to heal or kill us), and preventative healthcare (which seems to exist as a placebo that is costing us billions of dollars and time).
I like Ehrenreich's writing, and do suggest this book.
