Stunning Use of Sound submitted by Meginator on July 29, 2018, 9:33pm A Quiet Place is an intelligent horror film that makes the most of its unique premise: what would it take to survive in a world where aggressive alien creatures respond violently to any sounds rising above the usual background noise? The film follows a single family as they make their way through this landscape, coming face to face with these nemeses and desperately trying to survive in a world that has become hostile to all animals. The film relies on escalating and ebbing suspense for its dramatic tension, and John Krasinski uses jump scares sparingly and wisely, preventing the film from feeling gimmicky and keeping viewers on their toes. A few moments hint at gore, but nothing is graphic for the sake of being graphic; Krasinski does what is necessary to set the tone and establish the stakes, but doesn't revel in violence. The sound editing is absolutely incredible, taking full advantage of diegetic sounds, sparing spoken dialogue, and the film's score to make sound itself as much a character as the family members (who themselves are portrayed superbly). I'm not usually one for horror films but this one is simply amazing.

A great jumper submitted by Duckling on August 4, 2018, 10:06am I really liked this movie. It is strange because everything is so quiet, but I love the story and how it is about a strong family unit. And the director actually wanted this movie to be about family and I think he did a good job. My boyfriend loves scary movies and he found it not so great but I enjoyed the movie and all the family influence.

Scary submitted by Josephin2.718 on August 5, 2018, 7:16pm Holy crap this movie was suspenseful. First saw it on a plane during a day flight and kept jumping during the scary scenes. But ultimately I like that this isn't so much a scary movie as it is about parents and what they'd do for their kids.

A Quiet Place submitted by lstorc on August 5, 2018, 10:41pm Holy Cannoli! That was an amazingly intense thriller! Strong recommendation!

Not a horror fan, but I loved this submitted by dntanzer on August 21, 2018, 12:11pm The suspense in this movie was so well crafted, I was on edge for the entire movie. And while it was suspenseful and a little scary at times, I never felt it was too scary or, like other "horror" movies, gory. I cared about the survival of the characters and really appreciated their choice of Millicent Simmonds as the daughter. The world that this movie created was interesting and now I want to know more about it!

A Quiet Place submitted by Varshini on July 3, 2019, 7:56pm I love horror movies and thrillers!! This is really powerful and exciting.

OK submitted by sushai on July 19, 2019, 7:50pm Some plot holes kept the story from being that scary, but I know a lot of other people liked it.

Intense submitted by majean on July 19, 2019, 8:48pm Love that the story included and revolved around a deaf character who was played by a deaf actress. All I can say about the ending is GIRL POWER.

Scary submitted by crp on August 30, 2019, 12:40am Scary; really this movie is about parenting

What wouldn't you do to save your family? submitted by Michael Flynn on April 12, 2020, 3:10am Beautiful film.
Scary thrill and transcendent.
Tense, scream;
tense, run,
cry happy and sad tears.
"Weakness" turned to personal super power.

Great Movie submitted by czadams on August 17, 2023, 12:08am I don't like this genre usually, but I love how they portray Deafness in a positive way and that they had a real Deaf actress play the Deaf girl. I love Deaf culture! Very creative representation of Deaf culture and Deaf communities in a way that Deafness isn't the defining feature of the storyline- just a typical family that happens to have a Deaf kid.
