Good Book submitted by jacks404 on February 11, 2020, 1:50pm This book has a fascinating premise, lots of R rated action to keep the story moving and holds mysteries that you cannot wait to unravel. The only negative was that at times the plot left me a bit confused. Definitely going to read the entire trilogy though.

Compelling submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 17, 2020, 9:20pm This was a random pick off the library shelf, mostly because it appears to have won several awards. I'm not disappointed. _Rosewater_ presents a near-future version of our world where aliens have landed, but not really in a form we recognize or can engage with. They have changed some people, and our protagonist has been around the Nigerian site since its inception. The variety of characters are interesting, the world-building is engaging, and the storyline is compelling. The hardest part of the story for me is that the main character is quite disengaged in his own world, apathetic and just existing day to day. That got hard to read after a while, even if it was actually fairly integral to the story. A quick review of the trilogy tells me that the next two books shift focus, though, so I'm definitely interested in continuing and seeing what happens next.

Amazing submitted by ssands on July 12, 2021, 10:51am This book was fascinating. It's a complex sci-fi story with lots of action, but with a background that reveals itself slowly, in chapters that move back and forth in time. I found myself flipping back and forth as I puzzled out the plot, making hypotheses about what was secretly beneath the surface. The future-Nigeria setting was interesting. Unlike another reviewer, I enjoyed the main character. At the beginning of the book, I thought he might be mildly autistic. Like the plot, he was revealed over time as we jumped back and forth through his life. Highly recommended.
