For fourteen-year-old budding artist Minoru Ito, her two brothers, her friends, and the other members of the Japanese-American community in southern California, the three months since Pearl Harbor was attacked have become a waking nightmare. They have been attacked, spat on, and abused with no way to retaliate. Now things are about to get worse, their lives forever changed by the mass incarcerations in the relocation camps. -- adapted from run-on sentence provided

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Just Super! submitted by flemingj on June 26, 2021, 9:35am I've ready a number of books about Japanese Inernment, but this one really is the best. A little at a loss for words to explain how powerful it is.

More info than I've gotten before submitted by Xris on June 16, 2022, 11:26pm Most of the books I've read about the incarceration stop at Topaz or Manzanar. I hadn't heard about Tule Lake as extensively as in this book. And then the added part about the 442nd Regiment was something I hadn't hear about at all. The cover picture/illustration is amazing! I'm glad a list of all the characters was put in the beginning of the book, because it was a little hard to keep track of all the characters. That's my only detraction from this book, otherwise, it's great!
