Root is a game of woodland might and right. Stalk the woods as one of the Vagabonds, seize the initiative with the Eyrie birds of prey, rule over your subjects as the Marquise de Cat, or command the Woodland Alliance to create a new order. With creatures and cunning, you'll rule a fantastic forest kingdom in the ultimate asymmetric game of adventure and war.

Hit or Miss submitted by majean on July 27, 2022, 7:27pm I really enjoyed this game, while my husband did not. The Eyrie is tough to play.
Really great, but can take some time to learn submitted by sjb on July 26, 2023, 1:12pm This is a really great game, but it can take a bit of time and patience to learn. I would recommend having someone who has played it before teach it to you, if possible. When I play we often find ourselves referencing the rule book when certain situations come up, but after a few plays it gets a lot easier. It also much easier once you have played each of the factions so you understand how each of them operates since they are so asymmetrical. Once you get the basics down there are also a number of expansions that add interesting new factions into the mix of options.
Advanced skills needed submitted by Diananana on August 18, 2023, 11:21am My adult son, who is an expert gamer, loves Root and wishes he could play it more. The rest of us are struggling to master it. I would like to love this game, but the learning curve is pretty steep. I wouldn't play it for relaxation. So far, I've only played the Wood Alliance and Eyrie factions, plus River Folk from one of the expansions., and have actually won several times. For me, this game requires a great deal of concentration. Best to play when one is wide awake and not hungry!
Beautiful and complex submitted by MillinerR on June 23, 2024, 1:17pm The art for this game is absolutely wonderful. It's warm and cozy, and the animals are adorable. The gameplay is rather complex, and may take some time to fully understand. Each of the factions play very differently; this adds to the complexity, but also encourages re-playability.
A great game submitted by 216210347551311 on August 5, 2024, 2:08pm This is my favorite board game
