COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A solid mix of new and old submitted by irenzero on July 22, 2021, 9:37am In his latest outing, Alice delivers a solid hard rock album that pays tribute to the late 1960s Detroit Rock scene that he was part of. Mixed in with new songs are covers of the era and guest musicians from that era including members of The MC5, Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels, Grand Funk Railroad, and The Alice Cooper Band.

What Worked
The energetic covers of "Sister Anne" by The MC5 and "Rock and Roll" by the Velvet Underground - which is transformed to sound like a Grand Funk Railroad tune - are good, however, the stand out cover is "Our Love Will Change the World" by Outrageous Cherry which plays as a piss-take on the ends justify the means ideology of the “peace and love” passive-aggressiveness of the 1960s both lyrically and sonically. Originals “I Hate You” and “Shut up and Rock” shine with their on-point social-political commentary of the current era of polarized politics and hate culture with driving tempos.

What Didn't Work
A handful of the original songs are just ok. They don’t detract from the rest of the album, but they aren’t great either. Fitting with the theme, a few more well-selected covers would have been great, and maybe a different Bob Seger cover, "Heavy Music" for instance, would have it better.
