Five years after the Civil War, Captain Kidd moves from town to town as a storyteller. In Texas, he crosses paths with Johanna, a ten-year-old taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier. She is being returned to her biological aunt and uncle against her will. Kidd agrees to deliver the child where the law says she belongs. As they travel hundreds of miles, the two will face tremendous challenges of both human and natural forces as they search for a place that either can call home.

Western submitted by DL on July 12, 2021, 12:50pm Tom Hanks is great in this western film. This film has a real feel to it, life was hard and unpredictable at this time period. Helena Zengel was great in this film too.

Not great but worth a watch submitted by GSchne on July 26, 2022, 6:24pm I feel like a lot was lost in what was edited out from the book. It was still a good movie, it just lacked a depth in its storytelling. I actually preferred the movie's ending to the book version, though.
