COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Amazing submitted by manz on April 19, 2021, 9:41am This is an amazing and mesmerizing film. McDormand seems to still get better with each project she does.

Chloé Zhao rocks! submitted by yufamily on June 21, 2021, 2:45pm Frances Mcdormand deserves another Oscar for her amazing performance.

Don't miss the extras submitted by hoppingfun on July 17, 2021, 2:17pm LOVED this film and the nomad community who shared their stories and lives and stuff with each other and us. Frances McDormand is outstanding, full stop, and the direction by Chloe Zhao is pitch perfect—all the little moments and snippets of conversations woven expertly together. I can't stop thinking about it.

Relatable submitted by KMLB64 on August 21, 2021, 11:42pm Even though I do not live in a van, my life was turned upside down like the protagonist’s life was. I don’t want to give away the plot, but I could relate to her as she considers various options. There are scenes where it seems like she is on the outside looking in. She seems to weigh a more mainstream life against a life of freedom and enjoying nature. But is that a false dichotomy?

Realistic submitted by pmysore on July 2, 2022, 10:10am This is a good look at how people use this to deal with what life throws at them and make the most of what they have with the time they have.

Feel good (?) movie skips over some serious social problems submitted by rbseemail on August 1, 2023, 8:59am I liked the movie, but felt it skipped, or gently skipped by some of the serious social problems that drive people into a 'van life'. For example the scenes in an Amazon fulfillment center really did not encompass the misery of these stultifying jobs. See the review in Slate for a more in depth critique.
