Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil.
The show follows Eleanor Shellstrop, an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife and, thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead ofthe Bad Place, which is definitely where she belongs. While hiding in plain sight from Michael, the wise architect of the Good Place who doesn't know he's made a mistake, she's determined to shed her old way of living and discover the awesome, or at least the pretty good, person within.

Exceptional Sarcastic Comedy submitted by Meginator on July 1, 2018, 10:06pm This show is absolutely hilarious, layering absurdist and ironic humor over a premise with endless potential (what happens when a bad person gets sent to Heaven by mistake?), all while convincingly building a core group of quirky, endearing characters whose development is central to the show. The jokes are funny, sure, but there’s real heart and humanity underneath the veneer of cynicism. Each episode moves the story forward in unexpected ways, culminating in a season-ending paradigm shift that makes so much sense you can’t even be mad about it. This is an exceptional comedy series that only improves on multiple viewings; I can’t get enough of it.

Delightful Comedy submitted by Maria Maguire on July 20, 2018, 5:22pm The humor in this show is great, and very good-natured. It's purely fun comedy that leaves me feeling refreshed. The characters are all uniquely lovable. I find myself rooting for all the characters and loved seeing them better each other. And just as you start to think you have the feel of the show figured out, the end of the season throws in a great twist.

The Good Place. Season 1 submitted by lstorc on August 5, 2018, 10:44pm Hilarious and worthy of rewatching! it definitely has one of the more comedic twists of all time.

Holy forking shirtballs submitted by Aimless on July 24, 2019, 4:35pm This show is delightful. I watched it with my Elementary school age children. Although it is hilarious, it also A serious TV show about ethics

Smart submitted by gracekil on August 2, 2019, 3:52pm Surprisingly smart, funny, and entertaining show. Ethics and being a good person is not as straight-forward as you might think.

The best comedy currently airing submitted by redwood on August 4, 2019, 7:39pm How is a show about heaven and hell and philosophy this funny? What a stellar cast, and plot twists that actually feel like twists.

One of the best modern tv shows submitted by dntanzer on August 21, 2019, 9:50pm The good place is a weird but very funny show. I recommend it to everyone I know who's looking for new TV shows.

Funny application of philosophy submitted by Lori Tschirhart on June 25, 2020, 6:40pm Characters wrestle with what it means to be good and struggle with personality flaws and human weaknesses.

Such a good show! submitted by Zekicmom on August 15, 2020, 9:18pm This Good Place is incredibly entertaining. Take advantage of watching on video and pause to be able to read everything that ever appears on screen - names of stores, things' different point values. This advice will make sense once you see it. This series must be watched in order.

Extremely fun + a message submitted by avandeusen on July 17, 2021, 12:48pm A joy to watch, just don't skip episodes/read any spoilers! :)

Clever premise, executed very well submitted by neslerc on July 11, 2023, 10:33pm Woman shows up in the afterlife, realizes there’s been some sort of mistake. The characters are likable, the humor is smart but approachable, and the premise is explored in a way that makes good use of the intriguing idea.

This Anti-sitcom is somehow best in genre? submitted by oriolbt on July 29, 2023, 7:10pm I forget who wrote that the sitcom is the genre of social conservatism (maybe Emily Nussbaum in I Like to Watch?), but that definitely rings true. One of the medium's hallmarks is that any "lasting" or "significant" change at the end of an episode must be undone by the start of the next one. Serialization is the enemy; and the heavily syndicated reruns on sitcom-centric channels seemingly required that viewers would be able to drop in at any point in the show's run and not be distracted from the constant jokes by wondering what's going on. Character growth and development is limited, lest viewers suddenly fail to identify with characters they previously found relatable. In the case of characters like Fred Sanford, the bigotry practically was the character.

The Good Place flies in the face of this tradition by making the protagonist Eleanor's moral growth a central objective. This is a desperately refreshing counterpoint to the entrenched misogyny of Frasier Crane or Al Bundy. What's more, it bucks the trend of continuity resets. Each episode ends on a cliffhanger that drastically shakes up the status quo going into the next episode. But the most impressive coup of all is that despite these formal departures, this show is a strong (dare I say, excellent) enough example of the sitcom that it near-instantaneously rocketed into the canon. A rollicking good time.

I've watched it repeatedly submitted by kaymbre on August 1, 2023, 5:09am Oh, let me tell you, "The Good Place" Season 1 is an absolute delight! From the very first episode, I was hooked on the clever and hilarious concept of the afterlife and its quirky inhabitants. The witty writing, brilliant performances by Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, and the ingenious plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire season. Each episode is a perfect balance of humor, heartwarming moments, and philosophical musings, making it an unforgettable and thought-provoking experience. I couldn't get enough of the charming characters, their complex dynamics, and the captivating exploration of ethics and morality. "The Good Place" Season 1 is a true masterpiece, leaving me eager to dive into the next chapter of this extraordinary journey.
