Tlie following icsolutions were adopted by the First Biptist Church of Les! ie Sept 10. 1842. Wherèas, God having1 made of one blooü" all nations of men, to dweil on the face of the earth, and whereas the declaration of independence sets forth the vital self evident truth, that liberty is the inalienable rrght of all men, and whereas, American slavery to which more than twomillioná of nur couhtrymsn are subjecty is conlrary to natural justicc, revealcd religión, and common hnnianity, therefore, The First Baptrst Church in Leslie, Ingham County, Michigan, would expresss their entire disapprobation of this system of wrong nnd outrnge upon the rights and privileges of our fellow citizens in the followmg rcsolutions. Resolved, Th at American slavery even in its mildest form, is a flagrant sin against God, and a very considerable banier to the dïffueiori of gospel truth. Resolved, That our Moral and Religious infiuence shall be brought to bear against the sin of slavery until it shall have been abolished. Resolved, Tlmt knowiugly we will not invite to our pulpits or communion, a professed Baptist who is a íiavcholdcr or an apoïugisl for slcivenj. Resolved, That from our own expericnce it is benciicial wholly to abstain from all intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and that it is ir nCcordance with God's word and the ptainest dictates of common senee. Resolved, That as a Church of Christ we feel bound to withhold fellowship from ony person who makes in this day of light, an habitual irse of intoxicatwg drink exeop:ns a medicine, and Ihat will arraj the amounc of our inflüénce in favor of the groat principies of temperanco.Resolved, That whcrever and whenover a suilable ópportunity offers we will faitljfully nclminiáter rebuke to all our Baptist brelhren, ( especia Uy,) jij any part of our country or world who are guilty of the sin of slavery of ntempcranco.
