As t is now time for farmore to prepare fot suppljinglhemselves with food for their stock for another winter, I think I may benefit ome by stating the following facts. In the Fall of 1841, I harvested from 15Ü0 to L000 bushels rutábalas, which cost 2J cents per bushei when buried in heaps in tho field, rendy for winier use. In this estímate nll expenses are inclnded, except the rent of the land. Tho soil was sandy, of medium fertility. The yield per acre wosnot more ihan 300 bushels. A sandy soil in good coudition fur a erop of corn, will produce a good erop of lutabagas. If it nceds reviving with manu re, it may ba done at small expense and in Mie best manner for this erop, by sowing rye in the Pall anti ploughing In the erop in May when just headed out. The 6ced should be drilled in rows at about 3 feet d'.6tnnce to afford room for the cultivator or harrow. The ground must not be weedy; fit is, the addilionol labor of hoeing will doublé the expense of ihe erop. Last year there weregrown on the farm that produced part of the above erop, about 1500 bushels at the same expense - 2J cenls per bushel. A bushei of rutabagas per day, with a littlo straw, will keep an ox well through the winter if not worked;anda bushel and a half if worked every day. Two bushela per day with straw will fatten an ox fast and make excellent beef; two and a half are requisite for fattening very large oxen . A bushel of rutabagas is worth more than a bushel of potatoea for feeding cattle, and more ihan two busbeta ofbeets for cattle or hogs. Potatoes are worllt most for hogs when boiled; rulábalas yyhen. fed raw. If rutabagas freeze hard in the heaps, it does not hurt them much, if they are not suffèred to freeze again after bein thawed. I have ascertaincd the above factá from longcontinued trials, and therefure think they may be beneficial to farmers not acqtiainted wilh tJie value of this rooL
