Heart Attack Fatal To Ypsilanti Woman
YPSILANTI - Mrs. Myra Bird Bowen, 80, of 1013 W. Cross St., died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday afternoon at her home.
Mrs. Bowen was born July 9, 1876 in Unadilla, Mich., the daughter of Chambers D. and Diana Denton Bird. She was a member of the Gregory Baptist Church in Unadilla township where she spent her early life.
She was graduated from Howell High School and later from the Conservatory of Music, now a part of Eastern Michigan College. She specialized in voice at the conservatory and was a founder of the Pi Kappa Sigma sorority there.
She became a member of the faculty at the school following graduation. She married Nathan H. Bowen, a Detroit newspaperman, in 1905.
Mrs. Bowen was a member of the First Baptist Church here and served as state secretary of the Women's Baptist Mission Society. She was also a member of the PEO of the church.
There are no immediate survivors.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Geer Funeral Home with the Rev. William R. Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a fund for the blind. Friends may call at the funeral home.
