The State Liberty Convention met at Rochester, Jan. 17. Notwithstanding the bad travelling, and tlie slormy woather, Iwe hundred and tioelvc. delogates were present.- The following were nominated for State offices for the ensuing year: For Gover nor, WILLIAM R. SHAFTER. For Licutenant Governor. AARON ANGIER. For Treasurer. AARON HALE. With each of the bovo candidato? we have the ploasiire of a personal acqnaintance. - Thoy are men of highly cultivated mind?, of strict moral character aml worth. - Having spent one year in llie famüy of Judge Shaftcr previous to our emigration to this slate, we are prepared to endorse most fnliy the following from the Green Mountain Freeman. "It gives us tincommon pleasure to sec our State ticket heacled by such a rnan as the Hon. William R. Siiaiter, of Townsend . [■Ie is a practical farmer, and has aceumulaíed a hondsome property, hy tlie labor ofhis oicn hands. We do not believe, that a man of stropje common sense, or more nnspotted moral character, or more general benevolence, cnn be fbund in this State: or indeed any other State. If he does not receive the cordial and uniteii support of the Freemen of Vermont, wc have greatly mistaken their regard to moral worth." Judging from the report of the procecding.= Defore us the Convention was a most spiriied uffuir. The resolutions are fully up to the times - high-tonedj but of the right character. Let the yeomanry of Vermont - the hardy sonsofthe Green Mouutiin State, who inbale the atmo?pheric air in the land of Eihan Allen, show to the slaveholtïers of ihe South and the "dong!) faces " of the North, thnt lliey are made of euch imperishable materials, thot they never can - they never will turn to Clay.
