Mr. Editor: - The undersigned hnvingbeen reqmsfed to vist from time to time the Female School under the chargo of Miss and Airs. Page, and pnruculai ly to attend ihe regular exainiriatione, take plensure in submitting the fllowtng statement to the public. The competency of the tejchers of the school s unquesnotied, and wc nced nol say mo:e tlian ny longexperiencc ns well ns constant applicntion. they haverendered themselves worthy thcpalrondge and confidence of the public. The young hulies in their examination at the close of the Inst term gave satisfactory ei'idence of close application to the various branches of earning which they have been pursuing. - Their recirations were admirably correct, evincing in the manner in which ihe numerous and various questions wcrc nnswercd, that tlie'y had jecn laught to think as well as to commit to memory. The attainment of this object is doubtless one of the highest and most difficult to which a teacher ol youtb can direct attention, without which all the facts with which the mind may )e stored is but as rubbish encumbering ihe intellect. It is therefore with fatisfaction that wespeak of the conductor the teachers of this school in referencc to this important matter. The reading of Compositions 011 the evening which closed the exnmination gave us on opporunity of observing the progrese which the pupilshad mnde in that important brnnch ofinstrucion; having no difposition to indulge ín invidious distinction8, it is sufficient to remark, that general 8at8faction was given. the select-ons were good, and tho tyle of compoaition correct and liaste. In conclusión, we cannot refrein (rom the remnrk thnt the inhabitants of Ann Arbor and vi cinity, shnuld consider it a subjoct of just pride hat so valuHble a school ns that under the direcion of Miss and Mrs. Page is Iocated in thoir nidst, affording as H does such valuatile facilities o their daushters for obtaining a uefu and ornimental education.
