Illness Fatal To Dr. Bower

Local Woman Was Widely Known In Michigan Lodge Circles
Dr. Emma E. Bower, graduate of the University of Michigan homeopathic medical college, and widely known in lodge circles of the state, died last night at her home at 1340 Wilmot St. after a long illness.
Dr. Bower received her medical degree from the University in 1884, and practiced medicine for several years. In 1893, she became great record keeper of the Maccabees, having her office here until 1906, when it was transferred to Port Huron. In 1926, her office was relocated in the Maccabee building in Detroit.
She retired from this office in 1929, and was grand lecturer of the Maccabees until March, 1934, when she suffered a stroke, from which she never recovered fully. In addition to the Maccabees, she was a member of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah lodge.
She was born in Ann Arbor, and attended the grade and high schools before entering the University. Her parents were the late Henry and Margaret Chase Bower.
She is survived by a grandnephew.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon at the Graham funeral home with Rev. Frederick Leech officiating.
