Prolonged Illness Proves Fatal While She Is In Omaha

Mrs. Alta Muehlig, 72, an accomplished accordionist and the widow of Dr. George F. Muehlig, died last night in Omaha, Neb., after several months’ illness. Her home was at 1520 White St.
She was born Sept. 8, 1888, at Lake Odessa, Ionia county, a daughter of Joseph and Florence Skinner Ireman. She came to Ann Arbor with her parents as a child.
In 1910, Mrs. Muehlig was graduated from the University School of Music where she majored in piano. She learned to play the accordion as a hobby.
Entertained Groups
A former Red Cross volunteer, she played for local hospital patients, church groups and clubs and also entertained in other Michigan cities and in the Washington, D. C., area.
A citation for meritorious service to the community, given by the Erwin Prieskorn Post of the American Legion, was awarded to her in 1951 for her volunteer work at Veterans Hospital.
Mrs. Muehlig was a member of the local First Methodist Church, or Mu Phi Epsilon music sorority and of Chapter G, PEO Sisterhood.
In 1910, she was married to Dr. Muehlig, a local physician who died March 31, 1956.
Two Sons Survive
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Wilbur Muehlig and Dr. Kenneth Muehlig, both of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren; a brother, A. J. Ireman of Northfield township; three sisters, Miss Bessie Ireman of Washington, D. C., and Miss Hazel Ireman and Mrs. G. R. Anderson, both of Chicago; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Muehlig Chapel. The Rev. L. Burlin Main will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel beginning at noon Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the University’s children’s Psychiatric Hospital or St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Fund.
