Fatal Plane’s Engine Checked

Investigators today continued their probe of the Wednesday airplane crash that killed two men near Saline, centering their attention on the engine of the aircraft.

Sheriff Erwin L. Klager said the engine is being taken apart to determine if it caused the mishap that took the lives of Rudoph Schumaier, 44, flying instructor and owner of the Saline Airport, and William Beardsley, 49,manager-director of the Hayden Flour Mills in Tecumseh.

Klager said the mechanic who overhauled the engine on the day of the crash, Neil Griffen of Belleville, is tearing the engine down.
