Myrl Underwood Dies At Age 55

Insurance Man Was Former Supervisor
Myrl G. Underwood, 55, local insurance agent and former Ann Arbor township supervisor, died last night at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Underwood had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Saturday afternoon at his home, 3175 Glacier Way, Ann Arbor township.
Active in Ann Arbor township affairs, he first was elected supervisor in 1947. He served two terms.

He also was a former member of the township board of review and was a former township justice of the peace.
Mr. Underwood was active in the building program concerning the Ann Arbor Township Hall.
Mr. Underwood, who maintained insurance offices at 214 E. Washington St., had been associated with the insurance business in Ann Arbor since 1929. He was with various agencies until 1948 when he opened his own office.
He was a member and former president of the Ann Arbor Association of Insurance Agents.
Acitivities Told
Among other activities, Mr. Underwood had served as a member of the Rural-Urban Committee and also served on the board of the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet.
He was a member of the University of Michigan Club, serving as president in 1951-52, and belonged to the First Presbyterian Church. At the time of his death, Mr. Underwood was treasurer of the Men's Club of the church.
Mr. Underwood was born Dec. 20, 1901, in Britton, Mich. He was the son of Webster and May Holcomb Underwood.
He came to Ann Arbor in 1919 with his family. He was graduated from Ann Arbor High School and attended the University.
He was married Jan. 1, 1927, in Ann Arbor to Margaret Hanselman, formerly of Manistee, Mich. She survives.
Daughter Survives
Also surviving is a daughter, Betsy, a student at Michigan State University.
Private funeral services for the family were to be held this afternoon at the Muehlig Chapel, with the Rev. Henry Kuizenga officiating. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Presbyterian Church.
