Promenade Consultant OK’d
The architectural firm of Johnson, Johnson & Roy, Inc., was approved by the City Council last night as consultant for the proposed S. Main St. promenade.
The firm, which had worked with the Chamber of Commerce on plans for the promenade, will consult the city on plans and specifications for the improvements. Estimated cost for the consultants was set at $8.000 which will be a part of the total special assessment cost.
About two-thirds of the cost of the $86,000 project expected to be started next spring, will be paid by the city, with the remainder being paid by downtown merchants. Fourth Ward Councilman Edward C. Pierce, who opposed the cost breakdown, was the only councilman to cast a “no” vote on the hiring of consultants last night.
