Action At City Hall: Workmen are setting in place 12 planters at Ann Arbor's new City Hall downtown. The white planters weigh 17 tons each, are 23 feet long, 5 feet wide and 6 feet high. They will contain shrubs and other growth and will appear similar to structures at the Public Library. In the top photo [this photo], a crane has just lowered the first planter onto its base on the northeast end of the six-floor building. The brick bases, one for each planter, are on the promenade deck that extends from the second -floor level. In the bottom photo a workman attempts to adjust the heavy planter with a crowbar. The planters will be on both sides of the building.
