Description

The homemade games and toys, painting and fabrication of her mother and father fed Margaret’s imagination, naturally she wanted to make every experiment and project herself. Following in her parents’ footsteps, she built a life around making art, sharing the process with everyone around her, and giving to young people who showed the same need for self-expression. Design for theatre, opera and dance led her to work in large scale, to think spatially and to cross disciplines. This lead to public art, the idea that art should be free, outside of museums and galleries where it could be enjoyed by the general public. Her art became more participatory, complex political issues facing the country took on a central role in her work. As she gathered pieces for this show, which she thought of as an homage to her mother, she discovered that she has recorded a view of the history of her own time. Margaret Parker is the WCA Communications VP: www.margaretparkerstudio.com
