Died Wednesday, March 29, 1995, one day before her 88th birthday. She was born in Detroit, MI on March 30, 1907 to immigrant parents, Maria and Frank Sostar, and at the age of six months was taken by her mother to Croatia. She married Steve Besan in Zagreb, Croatia in 1929 and in 1941 gave birth to her only child, Maria Besan Sharp. After World War II she returned to the U.S. with her family, residing originally with relatives in Pennsylvania and later moving to be with friends in Akron, Ohio. In 1974 she moved to Ann Arbor, where she has lived with her daughter Maria, with whom she founded and operated the Pied Piper Children's Clothing Store between 1976 and 1984. She will always be remembered as "Grandma" to the many children that stopped there. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve in 1989. She is survived by her daughter, Maria, grandson David, and son-in-law, Robert, who will sadly miss her. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 1995 at Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Individualized Home Nursing Care, c/o Society Bank, P.O. Box 8612, Ann Arbor, MI 48107 and/or the Huron Valley Humane Society, 3100 Cherry Hill Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105. May she rest in Peace.
