A request that the board approve the establishment of a Student Memorial Fund at Community High in the name of Sloane Elizabeth Staples was made by assistant CHS Dean Elizabeth Gray.
Staples, a Community student, was one of four young people killed last fall in a traffic accident near Alpena during a school-sponsored camping trip.
The memorial fund would be used to provide scholarship assistance and encouragement to students who show a high degree of leadership potential and a desire to pursue higher education.
Preference would be given to women students planning to continue their studies in fields which women have not traditionally entered, Gray said.
The board will vote on the matter at a future session.
