■The pheric principie of propulsión upon railways, is still a matter of controversy in England. Upon the Croydon line, it has been tried and abandoned ; while on the South Devon line, where we believe t has been longest in operalionj it is still in favor. We learn from the London Railway Times, that the Devon line lins been repeatedly worked from Exeter to Dawlish, in every possible way, with heavv andwith light weights, and that all theexperiments have been eminently successful. With light weights a speed of seventy miles an hour was obtained, and with a weight of ninety or one hundred tons, a speed of thirty to thirty.five miles an hour. Further extensions of the line, to Plymouth and to Totnes, are contemplated.
