Lions Band Will Promote Aid To Blind
A band made up of Ann Arbor Lions will play at various commercial locations tomorrow and Saturday afternoons to draw attention to the annual white cane drive.
The band will play at street corners in the central business district, shopping centers and outlying supermarkets. Wearing colored helmets, the bandsmotivill be transported by truck. By their music they hope to spotlight the two-day street solicitation to be conducted by members of the city's two Lions clubs, sponsors of the drive. Donations may be of any amount.
All the funds raised in the drive will go for projects that aid the sight-handicapped. No administrative costs are deducted.
More than $5,000 is spent yearly by city Lions, most of it locally. Included in their projects are the Michigan Eye Collection Center at the University Medical Center, eye examinations and glasses for needy school children, food baskets for the blind at Thanksgiving and a fruit basket plus a check for the blind at Christmas.
