U-M Man Heads Far East Group
Prof. Robert B. Hall Elected At Convention
(Special to The News) PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Prof. Robert B. Hall, director of the Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Michigan, was elected president of the Far Eastern Association, a national organization, here yesterday.
Dr. Hall, who also is professor of geography at Michigan, was the first vice-president of the group when it was founded several years ago. He succeeds Prof. Harold S. Quigley of the University of Minnesota political science department. Dr. Hall was named director of the U-M Center for Japanese Studies when it was established in 1947. He led field expeditions to Japan a number of times during the 1930's.
During World War II he was director of the Pacific Coast headquarters of the Office of Strategic Services. He was sent to England in 1943 to correlate American and British information on the Far East.
Later he was chief of the Research and Analysis Branch for the China-India-Burma theater of operations.
