Gustave A. Laier
Gustave A. Laier, 52, for 26 years a farmer in Lima township, died at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital this morning after an illness of about a year.
Mr. Laier, who lived at 1140 S. Lima Center Rd. in Lima township, was born in Vaden, Germany, June 21, 1902. He was a son of Philip and Magdalena Doerfer Laier.
He came to Chelsea in 1924 where he met and married Miss Rose Merkel in 1927.
Surviving are his wife; five sons, Carl, Edward, Thomas, Robert and Donald, all living at home; two daughters, one of them a nun, Sister M. Thomas Albert, O. P., of Lockwood, and Teresa who lives at home; six brothers, Philip of Finley, O., Elois of Howell, Joseph of Merlin, Ont., and Albert, Frederick and Alphonse who live in Germany.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Edith Stegmier, Mrs. Margaret Wesser and Mrs. Mary Reidinger, all of Germany.
Mr. Laier was a member of the St. Mary's Church in Chelsea, the Holy Name Society and the Lima Township Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Lee Laige officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
The rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Staffan Funeral Home in Chelsea.
