Description

Through a Climate and Environmental Justice lens, this presentation explores the intersection of racial justice, decolonization, and climate change in Michigan. Most conversations about climate change are centered on greenhouse gas emissions, but they neglect to untangle critical questions like: Who is producing those emissions? Are we all equally responsible? Does race and income determine how we are impacted by climate change? Why?

Juan Jhong-Chung is a Policy Associate at Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition. His work is centered on understanding and advancing environmental and climate policy rooted in racial justice and grassroots solutions. Juan has a Masters of Science in Environmental and Sustainability and is currently finishing a Masters in Urban Planning at the University of Michigan.

This event is part of SciFri Book Club's October selection, Rising by Elizabeth Rush.
